January 7, 2014Crowded Dance Floors? Not a Problem Dancing the Balboa!
January 27, 2014Looking for a romantic dance to do with your partner? Take dance lessons to learn the Bolero, a beautiful Latin dance that is often called the Cuban “Dance of Love.” There’s no need to hurry with this dance, so you can relax and enjoy the music and the company of your partner. Bolero is known and loved for its slow and sultry rhythm.
Originating in Spain in the late 1700s, the Bolero became popular in Cuba in the 1800s and was finally introduced in the United States in the 1930s.
Congas, bongos, castanets, and guitars are used in Bolero music to create beautiful melodies. The Bolero is danced in the close embrace to a very slow type of Rumba rhythm. This dance involves long, sweeping steps and a slip pivot—a rotation of the body on the ball of the supporting foot, which creates a pivot forward or backward. This pivot step is what makes the Bolero so graceful.
The Bolero is danced socially and in ballroom competitions. It can be a partner or a solo dance.
