November 16, 2014Flashing lights, disco balls, and bell-bottoms…Do you remember the disco era?
The Hustle is a disco dance that became a craze in the late 1970s. The 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever (featuring John Travolta and music from the Bee Gees) launched the Hustle into its tremendous popularity. The Hustle caught on fast, and soon everyone wanted to learn both the line and partner versions of this dance.
The Hustle is fast-paced and creates a tremendous amount of energy out on the dance floor. It is characterized by fast turns, spins, and dips, with the female dancer spinning almost continuously.
The Hustle is performed to disco and modern pop music in ballrooms and nightclubs across the country. It shares some similarities with Swing and Salsa. When danced as a couple, it is often called the New York Hustle or Latin Hustle.
You can learn the Hustle and have a lot of fun doing it! Let the instructors at the Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Charlotte and Lake Norman, NC show you how it’s done.
